#WorkoutWednesday: 30 Minute Strength Workout

#workoutwednesday Thirty Minute Strength Workout

Ever since Lady Bug was born (she's now two-and-a-half), my running has been two steps forward, one step back, eg) frustrating to the max. As soon as I get in a good groove, I start increasing mileage, throwing in a workout here and there, jumping into a 5k, and then bam, something throws me off. It's been beyond frustrating. Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result, right? Which is why I've tried all kinds of things. A non-exhaustive list of things I've tried over … [Continue reading...]

Why We Don’t Have a Christmas Tree

I am Jewish. My husband was raised Presbyterian, considers himself atheist, and until he met me, had never known a Jewish person. So it was with some trepidation and a few drinks that I told him if he was serious about me, he would have to let me raise our possible children Jewish. Never mind that I wasn’t positive I wanted kids and we’d known each other all of two weeks. I was sure of two things: Dan was awesome and I had no time to date a guy I’d never marry. He asked me what having Jewish … [Continue reading...]

Race Report: Wobble Gobble 5k

race-report-wobble-gobble-5k-2016

The morning started like any other race morning, with two packets; a square packet of Quaker Instant Oatmeal and a rectangular, tube-like packet of Starbucks Via. Unlike a usual morning, I Instagrammed my breakfast. I spent a moment wondering if I was a loser or a cliche or both because really? Choosing a cool filter for a photo of prepackaged food? But I went ahead and did it anyway, wrote a caption, slapped on a few hashtags, and boom, there was my first ever Instagram post. I got out the … [Continue reading...]

38 Gratitudes

Today is my 38th birthday. I have so much to be grateful for, including but not limited to: 1. Our amazingly comfortable mattress 2. Books 3. Watching Sweet Pea curl up her bed, engrossed in a book when she doesn’t know I’m watching 4. The sound of the kids laughing 5. The infinite fort configurations our couch allows. When we were saving for that Crate and Barrel mid-century modern custom microfiber upholstered beauty, we never imagined it would become a fort. Or a baby crib, a dog … [Continue reading...]

Why I never bothered to research the preschool curriculum

Many parents spend hours researching the best preschool for their children. Not me. It’s not that I don’t care about my little angels. Like all parents, my greatest desire is for my kids to be happy (and for them to sleep through the night). But for my eldest- an outgoing kid without any developmental issues- choosing a preschool was as simple as taking a quick look at two options and, after a ten-minute chat with my husband, choosing the closer, cheaper option. And while I’m sure that details … [Continue reading...]

#We’re With Her

img_6357

My great grandparents immigrated to the United States in the late 1800's to escape the pogroms in Eastern Europe. Once here, they had three girls, including my grandmother, Edith Berger Sinel. Having skipped a grade, she and her older sister graduated high school the same year. Their father said, "Girls, I can buy a house or I can send you to college." They said, "Papa, you can always buy a house, but we want to go to college now." My Memee and my great aunt Ruth were two of ten Jewish girls … [Continue reading...]

Barre 3 Streaming: An Honest Review

barre3

With limited access to studio barre classes, I streamed Barre 3 classes for a couple of months, and I want to tell you all about it.  This is my honest review of Barre 3 Streaming. Disclaimer: They gave me one month of free streaming in exchange for an honest review. If you know me or have been reading my blog for a while, feel free skip this part, but I thought it would be useful to understand my fitness background for context. -My dance experience is limited to ballet classes at the … [Continue reading...]

I turned “I can’t” into “I did” (without vomiting)

Boulder Story Slam

Three years ago, I sat at a table with a successful, smart, genuine woman at the BlogHer conference. I met many amazing women that weekend but this one said something to me that I’ve held close ever since. Her blog was huge, she was traveling the world sharing her message, and she had a book deal with a major publishing house. She was doing things I never even dared imagine doing. I was still hoping to someday get paid to write (which for the record, I did for the first time, just a month … [Continue reading...]
